Diethylene Triamine Pentaacetic Acid (DTPA)
CAS No.: 67-43-6 (EINECS 200-652-8)
Molecular Formula: C14H23N3O10
Molecular Weight: 393.35
Structural Formula:
Properties:
Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) is a chelating agent that sequesters metal ions. Thus, DTPA cannot combine with other ingredients in a product.
The appearance of DTPA is a white crystal. It is soluble in hot water and alkaline solution, slightly soluble in water, and insoluble in organic solvents such as alcohol and ether. DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) has a melting point of 230℃ (decomposition). Solubility in water (20℃) is 5g/L.

Usage:
DTPA is used in soaps as a water softener, and it is also used to protect dyes and perfumes from combining with metals in solution, etc.
In addition, DTPA can be used as a highly effective chelating agent. Because of its strong chelation, DTPA chelating agent can be used as a color inhibitor in acrylic fiber production, the paper industry, water softener, textile auxiliaries, chelating titrants, etc.
